What is the difference between standard Heat Treatment and Hot Isostatic Pressing (HIP)?
Heat Treatment uses temperature alone (in air, vacuum, or gas) to alter a metal's internal microstructure, changing its hardness, tensile strength, or ductility. Hot Isostatic Pressing (HIP) applies extreme heat AND high-pressure argon gas (15,000+ psi) simultaneously. HIP does not just change hardness; its primary job is to physically squeeze internal micro-porosity and shrinkage voids closed, giving cast parts the density and fatigue life of a forging.
