The Hot-Chamber Zinc Die Casting Process
Zinc die castings are produced using **hot-chamber die casting machines**. Unlike cold-chamber processes used for aluminum, zinc alloys melt at lower temperatures, allowing the machine's injection mechanism (gooseneck) to be submerged directly within the molten metal bath.
To begin the cycle, hardened tool steel dies are clamped together under high pressure. The machine’s submerged hydraulic plunger forces molten zinc rapidly into the mold cavity. The metal solidifies almost instantly, the die opens, and the precision zinc casting is ejected. This continuous injection cycle runs much faster than sand casting or investment casting methods.

Can zinc die castings be easily plated?
Yes. Zinc (particularly ZAMAK 3 and ZA 8) is highly receptive to a wide variety of finishes. It is widely considered the best die-cast material for high-quality decorative chrome plating.
Does zinc die casting require secondary machining?
Very rarely. The zinc die casting process achieves near-net-shape accuracy, and internal threads can often be cast directly into the part. However, ForceBeyond provides in-house CNC machining for features that require ultra-precise micro-tolerances.
